The afternnon tea we had with the group 'people living well with dementia‘ was really enjoyable. The talk and information we were given was really intersting and showed me a different way of looking at dementia and how it affects people in different ways. Through talking with those affected by dementia it was clear that they were still able to live full lives and didn’t allow their dementia to define them. One man said how his dementia had actually helped him to appreciate certain aspects of life better and not take things for granted. I thought this was a really nice approach to the disease and I was surpised by how openly they all talked about their experiences which made it easy to ask them questions. It was intersting to see how the diagnostic aspect of dementia has changed from when my Gran was diagnosed and how the understanding of how to help those with the disease has developed through setting up groups to support each other.
